Music History at MTMS

We're really proud to be able to offer every single co-requisite course for anyone looking to complete all RCM requirements or entering a post-secondary program. Music History

The Music History Program is a complete history of the development of Western Classical music. It is divided into three levels. 

The first is a survey course from the Baroque era to present day and is a requirement for the Gr. 9 RCM certificate;

The second covers the Middle Ages to the Classical era and is required for Gr. 10;

The third explores the Romantic and the Modern eras and is required for the ARCT level, therefore part of what is needed to graduate from the Royal Conservatory.  Read more »

Karen Broadhurst

Teacher

Dr. Karen Broadhurst has been teaching piano and theory for many years.  Karen has studied at the University of Toronto, Universitė Laval, Universitė Paris-Sorbonne, the University of Cambridge and the University of London, England.  She studied piano with Madeline Bone and Margaret Parsons Poole and music theory and history with Yvonne Amos, earning her ARCT.

Fluently bilingual, Karen is able to teach in either English or French. Read more »
